Communication skills
Communication cases technical part
In this lesson, we’re going to shift our focus from the human side of communication to the practical, technical side that makes modern tutoring possible.
Being a great online tutor means creating a learning environment that is smooth, professional, and free of technical frustration for both you and your student. We're going to talk about how to use technology not as a barrier, but as a bridge to better learning.
We’ll start by looking at your digital workspace: the virtual classroom. We'll explore how to prepare for your lessons to ensure everything runs smoothly from the moment your student joins the call. Think of this as your pre-flight check. We’ll discuss the importance of having the right setup and how to use essential features like screen sharing and virtual whiteboards to make your explanations come alive, turning your screen into a dynamic and collaborative blackboard.
From there, we’ll dive into managing the flow of a lesson, especially when you have more than one student. We’ll cover strategies for:
- Managing Questions: How to use features like chat and a "virtual hand raise" to create an orderly and inclusive environment where even shy students feel comfortable participating.
- Sharing Resources: We'll talk about the best ways to share files, videos, and other digital resources without causing confusion. A big part of this is making sure your students—who may not all be tech-savvy—know exactly how to access and use the materials you provide.
Finally, we'll touch on the powerful tool of recording your lessons. We'll discuss how it can benefit both you and your student, and important steps to take before you hit record to ensure your practice is always ethical and professional.
By the end of this lesson, you won't just know what the tools are; you'll feel confident using them to create a seamless, engaging, and effective online learning experience. Let's master the tools of our trade.
