Tutor Overview

Tutoring software

One of the most common questions I get from new tutors is, "What software do I actually need?" The internet is filled with endless options, and it can feel completely overwhelming. Do you need to spend a lot of money? Which platform is best for video calls? How do you share notes or create materials that look professional?

Don't worry. In this lesson, I’m going to walk you through my personal toolkit. Think of it as your guide, cutting through the noise to show you the tools that really matter for me. We'll break it down into a few simple categories:

  • Your Virtual Classroom (Web Conferencing): This is where your lessons will happen. We’ll look at the most popular platforms. I’ll give you my honest take on the pros and cons of each, including the hidden limitations of the free versions and which ones are my favourite to use.

  • Sharing, Communicating, and Creating: A great lesson doesn't end when the call is over. We'll explore my favorite tools for sharing notes (from simple free options to powerful digital notebooks), creating beautiful lesson materials (even if you’re not a designer!), and even using some clever AI tools to help you build personalized content and save a huge amount of time. I’ll show you the tools I personally use every single day.

  • Staying Organized (Student Management & Scheduling): As you get more students, keeping track of everything can be a challenge. We'll look at simple, often free, tools for scheduling lessons without the back-and-forth emails. I’ll also introduce you to some fantastic all-in-one platforms designed specifically for tutors that can handle everything from booking to payments.

My goal here isn't to overwhelm you with a giant list. It's to give you a curated selection of reliable, effective tools so you can choose the right setup for your style and your budget. By the end of this lesson, you'll have a clear idea of what you need to get started and can build a professional, seamless experience for your students from day one.
